Edinburgh Castle named the UK’s ‘most beautiful’ attraction by TripAdvisor reviewer analysis study

Travel agency Kuoni has analyzed more than 450,000 TripAdvisor reviews to reveal which sights and attractions around the world visitors have declared the most beautiful in their reviews.

And to no one’s surprise, it was Edinburgh Castle that was rated the most appealing by visitors from the UK, with over 5,000 reviews highlighting the beauty of the castle.

The rock on which Edinburgh Castle is built is the cap of an extinct volcano that erupted around 340 million years ago, long before the last ice age in Scotland.

The capital’s landmark has seen the likes of Westminster Abbey in London and Liverpool Cathedral, which is the largest cathedral and religious building in the UK.

Although parts of the castle remain for military use, the latest survey shows how popular the old fortress is now as a world-famous tourist attraction.

The only other Scottish place listed as one of the most beautiful according to review analysis on TripAdvisor was Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, with the famous gallery receiving an impressive 2,091 “magnificent” reviews.

Edinburgh Castle voted Britain’s Most Beautiful Landmark on TripAdvisor

Edinburgh Castle and skyline seen from Calton Hill – The castle has been named the most beautiful destination in a new study.

Other sites in the UK top 10 include Bournemouth beach famous for its golden sands and stunning blue waters, with the Royal Pavilion in Brighton also making the top 10.

Edinburgh Castle has an average rating of 4.5/5 stars on TripAdvisor, with over 51,000 reviews on the popular tourist site.

Edinburgh’s Castle Rock has been a fortress for over 3000 years. The castle itself was built in the 12th century and houses the Scottish Crown Jewels, which are among the oldest insignia in Europe, and the Stone of Destiny.

It also hosts events such as rock concerts and fireworks spectaculars at the end of the Edinburgh Festival and at New Years.

The One O’Clock Gun has been fired almost daily from Edinburgh Castle since 1861 and St Margaret’s Chapel, Edinburgh’s oldest building, is one of the most romantic places to get married.

Edinburgh Castle is Scotland’s top paid tourist attraction, with more than two million visitors a year before lockdown.

A global version of the study was also conducted, with New York’s Central Park being named the most beautiful place in the world.
